MANILA, Philippines - Globe Telecom has donated P5 million worth of storybooks to various public elementary schools in the country to foster the love of reading among Filipino children.

The project is in partnership with the Ayala Foundation Inc. (AFI) through its “100 for 200” campaign that aims to raise 200,000 Filipino storybooks for 200 public schools.

It is also part of  Globe Telecom’s Global Filipino Schools (GFS) program and the company’s long-term collaboration with the Department of Education (DepEd) in pushing for a more progressive 21st-century learning environment in public schools nationwide.

By providing public elementary schools with a complete and wide selection of storybooks for various ages, more students will be encouraged to read more and develop a deep love of reading, a vital and effective element in student development at a young age, Globe president and chief executive officer Ernest Cu noted.

“Developing a good and regular reading habit will go a long way to help improve the literacy and comprehension skills of young learners, which is necessary for them to become competent and educated adults,” Cu said.

“Literacy is necessary to provide a brighter future for the children and the country as a whole,” he said.
