Phl Youth Elite, CKSC trounce Freego Kids rivals

MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine Youth Elite trounced RTMM Engineering, 87-68, while Chiang Kai Shek College clobbered Headstart, 81-43, to kick off its title-retention drive in the 12-Under division in the fourth Headstart Development Basketball League-Freego Kids Cup at the SGS gym in Quezon City recently.

The Phl Elite, coached by AMA sports director Mark Herrera, overpowered RTMM Engineering and came away with a 21-point romp on the opening day graced by PBA Philippine Cup Finals MVP Chris Ross and Briann Heruela of San Miguel Beer.

Ian Chua took the Freego Best Player of the game after scoring 19 points for Phl Elite. Also delivering for the squad were Carlos Cantorna, Jayjay Golloso and Lebron Nieto.

With Tyron Tecson on the firing end, CKSC dominated Headstart from start to finish en route to a 38-point rout.

Organized by Freego sports marketing consultant Edster Sy with Willy Chan as tournament director, the annual event drew five teams each in the 12-U and 15-U categories.

AMA stamped its class early in the 15-U division with a 122-44 drubbing of Manila Patriotic School while CKSC blasted Letran, 90-80.

Christian Camay made 17 points, 10 rebounds and three steals for AMA while Randolf Cruz led all scorers with 21 points.
