8 Philippine universities make it to Asian rankings
MANILA, Philippines – Eight Philippine universities have made it to this year’s Asian university rankings released by international higher education information provider Quacquarelli Symonds Tuesday.
The University of the Philippines remained the best tertiary institution in the country, retaining its 70th spot.
Ateneo de Manila University improved its ranking, from 114th last year to 99th this year.
It was followed by De La Salle University, which improved from 181-190 in 2015 to 143rd this year.
University of Santo Tomas, meanwhile, slid from the 143rd spot in 2015 to 157th place.
Ateneo de Davao University, which failed to make it in last year’s Asian rankings, reclaimed its 251st to 300th rank that it first obtained in 2014.
Three other Philippine universities made it to the list for the first time this year: Siliman University (251-300), Xavier University (251-300) and University of San Carlos (301-350).
The rankings are based on the following criteria: academic reputation, employer reputation, faculty-student ratio, citations per paper and papers per faculty, staff with doctorate degrees, proportion of international faculty and students, and proportion of inbound and outbound exchange students.
Still on the top spot in this year’s rankings is the National University of Singapore, followed by University of Hong Kong, Nanyang Technological University in Singapore, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, and Tsinghua University in China.
Completing the Top 10 are the Korea Advanced Institute of Science & Technology, City University of Hong Kong, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Peking University in China, and Seoul National University in South Korea.
