Posisyon ni Cojuangco ayaw isugal laban kay Vargas

MANILA, Philippines – Malinaw na walang balak ang Commission on Elections ng Philippine Olympic Committee na tanggapin ang kandidatura ni boxing association chief Ricky Vargas.

Sa panayam ng programang ‘Fastbreak’ ng DZMM, sinabi ni Var-gas ng Association of Boxing Alliances of the Philippines na nilimita ng POC COMELEC ang kahulugan ng ‘active participation’ sa POC General Assembly.

“The issue is very simple. All they have to do is allow an election. Only, the Comelec has oversimplified the disqualification process,” wika ni Vargas.

Ang 64-anyos na si Vargas ang gustong humamon sa 82-anyos na si incumbent Jose ‘Peping’ Cojuangco, Jr para sa presidential seat ng POC sa eleksyon sa Nobyembre 28.

Bukod kay Vargas ay diniskuwalipika din ng POC COMELEC ang kanyang running mate na si PhilCycling pre-sident Abraham Tolentino.

Ayon sa nasabing komisyon, hindi aktibo ang partisipasyon nina Vargas at Tolentino sa POC General Assembly sa nakaraang dalawang taon kaya sila nadiskuwalipika.

“Their definition of active is very limited. Why is it limited to only the chairman and the president? Wala naman din doon sa bylaws. Kung talagang nanini-wala sila doon bakit hindi sa lahat?” pagkuwestiyon ng ABAP exe-cutive.

“It’s a very unreaso-nable rule that satisfies only the incumbent. Sila lang nagbe-benefit from that and it excludes o-thers,” dagdag pa nito.

Nagsumite na ang kampo ni Vargas ng motion for reconsideration sa POC COMELEC.

“We will await when it goes to the process for the decision of the committee. I hope that they have an open mind,” ani Vargas sa kanilang hakbang. “If not there’s no choice, but to actually got to the court.”
