Campus News: NYC calls to break HIV stigma
The National Youth Commission (NYC) called for the media and drug enforcement agencies to properly address HIV cases to prevent discrimination and to promote treatment efforts to help reduce HIV cases among the youth. Recent reports conducted by the Department of Health in April 2017 showed that among 629 persons who have HIV, 80 percent of those belongs to ages 15 to 34 years old.
ALS passers now qualified for SHS voucher program
Students who took or plans to take the Alternative Learning System (ALS) and Accreditation and Equivalency Test (A&E) can now enroll in DepEd-recognized private schools and avail the SHS voucher program if they are certified for admission to Grade 11 in SY 2018-2019. Interested applicants may submit their applications manually until June 15, 2018. The Alternative Learning System provides formal instruction to those who do not have or cannot access formal education.
Miss PUP takes PASUC crown
Broadcast communication student from Polytechnic University of the Philippines Joy Barcoma took home the Miss Philippine Association of State University and Colleges (PASUC) crown at the coronation night held at the Negros Oriental State University Gymnasium in Dumaguete City last November 30, 2017. She also received special awards such as Miss Congeniality, Miss Photogenic, and 1st runner-up in the talent competition.
DLSU to hold free short course
De La Salle University – Manila will hold a free short course titled “Big Data: From Introductory Tutorials to Hands-On Courses” on January 23-26, 2018 featuring Prof. Jennifer Widom from Stanford University of Engineering. The event will be open to Computer Science, I.T and Information systems faculty, students and professionals. Prof. Widom is the Dean of the Engineering and a computer science professor and Massive Open Online Course pioneer.
