Department of Education (DepEd) Secretary Leonor Briones signed seven different partnerships that aim to holistically develop the competencies of teachers and students nationwide.

Signed were partnerships with the following companies and constitutions: Cosmotech Philippines, Nestle Philippines, the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology, Food Safety and Hygiene Academy of the Philippines, Tulay Foundation/ Solar Entertainment/ LST Development Corporation, and Megawide Corporate Foundation/ Megawide Construction Corporation.

FDCP organizes Pinoy indie filmfest

The Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) organized an independent film festival, the Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino, in line with Buwan ng Wika. The filmest is a week-long celebration where partner movie theaters will exclusively screen Filipino films nationwide from August 16-22, 2017. A total of 12 participating films will be screened in over 700 theaters nationwide.

Mindanaoan youth craft peace and security manifesto

Some 50 Mindanaoan youths gathered in Iligan City on Friday to craft a youth manifesto for peace building and security that was presented to local and international leaders of the 2017 International Youth Day celebrated last Aug. 12.

According to NYC commissioner James Ventura, the manifesto that will be signed by the Mindanaoan youths will be a guide for NYC and other youth-serving agencies and organizations.

JICC opens applications for The Asian International Children’s filmfest

The Japan Information and Culture Center of the Embassy of Japan in the Philippines opens applications for The Asian International Children’s Film Festival 2017 in partnership with the National Youth Commission.

The competition encourages Grades 10-12 students to submit a three-minute video exploring this year’s theme, “School Teacher”. The top three finalists will be sent to Japan for the international leg of the competition in November.

The deadline for submission of entries is on Sept. 15.

Deped holds 1st MTB-MLE conference

The First National Conference on MTB-MLE (Mother Tongue-Based Multilingual Education) was held on Aug. 2 to 4 in Mariveles, Bataan to ensure the proper implementation of the Guidelines of the Implementation of the Mother Tongue-Based Multilingual Education (MTB-MLE) or the Department of Education (DepEd) Order No. 16, s. 2016.

The conference was held to identify the best practices of MTB-MLE implementers in using the mother tongue in the teaching and learning process, with the theme “Empowering Young Learners through MTB-MLE”.
