MANILA, Philippines - After the Sine Kabataan Short Film Competition, the National Youth Commission opened applications for INKED, a short video competition that focuses on the importance of voting and its value as young citizens to persuade young people to participate in the electoral process. Three winners will be chosen from the entries that will receive P15,000 each while another three will receive consolation prizes of P5,000 each. Entries may be submitted until Sept. 1, 2017.

Pinoy SPED student wins big in China Math Olympiad

Miguel Isidro Cayetano, a 5th grade fast-learner/gifted and talented student from Tuguegarao West Central School in Cagayan Valley, brought home one silver and three gold medals from the China Primary Math Olympiad held at Zeijang, China last July. Cayetano is one of several Filipino students who triumphed with 12 golds, 10 silvers, 11 bronze medals, and six merit awards from various Mathematics competitions in China, Singapore and Vietnam last month. The delegates battled against 1,200 students from different Asian countries.

DEPED and KWF lead Buwan ng Wika celebration

The Department of Education (DepEd), in cooperation with Komisyon ng Wikang Filipino (KWF), encourages private and public schools and institutions to celebrate the annual Buwan ng Wikang Pambansa this August with the theme “Filipino: Wikang Mapagbago.” The Buwan ng Wikang Pambansa is usually celebrated in schools by holding slogan and poster contests, essay writing, jingle making, and a lot more.

NYC formally welcomes AYSEA 2017 delegates

About a hundred ASEAN Youth Social Entrepreneur Awardees (AYSEA) were formally welcomed by the National Youth Commission at the Barbara’s Heritage Restaurant in Intramuros, Manila on Aug. 6. Delegates received locally-made woven bags and the welcome dinner ended with entertaining performances. AYSEA delegates were given the chance to experience Filipino food delicacies, introduce themselves and share a bit about their products and businesses.

Campus contributor joins young journos exchange in Japan

The Philippine STAR Campus contributor Aubrey Alejo was chosen as one of 20 official delegates to JENESYS 2017: Young Journalists Exchange program, a cultural immersion program in Japan from Sept. 12 to 19. Delegates were chosen to represent the country in a series of cultural exchanges between the Philippines and Japan that will be held in Tokyo and Kanto Koshinetsu.
