Philstar.com

MANILA, Philippines – The University of the Philippines-Diliman Department of English and Comparative Literature (UPD-DECL) will hold Shakespeare and manga workshop for comics and literature enthusiasts on September 19.

Culture and comics will collide as Shakespeare and manga specialist Dr. Yukari Yoshirara, and manga artists Sanazaki Harumo, Tintin Pantoja, Ace Vitangcol and Jed Siroy mentor aspiring artists in the workshop entitled “Manga by the Bard."

Sanzaki, one of the mentors for the workshop, is deemed as one of the most prolific Japanese manga artists with more than 300 manga books published by several leading publishers - romance, mystery horror and historical fancy mangas. She made her debut as ashôjo [girls’] manga artist from Akita Publishing in 1981 and has created manga works based on films, operas, romance novels and stage plays.

Sanzaki also has active interest in Shakespeare’s plays and created manga adaptations of Macbeth, Romeo and Juliet and A Midsummer Night’s Dream.

On the other hand, Filipino mentors Vitangcol and Siroy worked on the romantic comedy manga series, “Love is in the Bag” while Pantoja’s works include “Who is AC? and “Hamlet: The Manga Edition.”

The Shakespeare and manga workshop will be held at Puzzles Board Game Lounge, Bonifacio Global City, Taguig on Sept. 19, 2015 from 4 to 7 p.m.

Manga by the Bard is open to public with admission fee of P500. This can be paid during the registration. Interested participants may pre-register at: http://goo.gl/forms/8drz2hgkq8 or visit their Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/MangabytheBard. - Rosette Adel
