Shakey’s Pizza lines up 20 new stores in 2018

MANILA, Philippines — Shakey’s Pizza Asia Ventures Inc. (SPAVI), the listed full service restaurant of the Po family, plans to open 20 new stores this year to bring its store network to 228.

Last year, the company opened 24 new stores across the globe.

SPAVI president Vicente Gregorio said 2017 was a banner year for the restaurant operator, which marked its maiden year as a publicly listed company.

“This is the fastest we’ve grown in terms of store network. We have a strong belief in our brand and our strategy, and are keeping pace with the accelerating growth of our economy,” Gregorio said.

“We will continue to take advantage of the positive consumer sentiment in the Philippines and hope to open even more stores, including those outside the typical first tier cities,” he added.

Last year, Shakey’s opened in provincial locations such as Iligan, Puerto Princesa, Antique, Gapan, and Palo, Leyte, following the growing urbanization trend in such areas.

The new stores carried redesigned interiors as the company hopes to elevate American family casual dining concept to another level.

 Gregorio said the new design is meant to address Filipinos’ demand for better food and service.

 “As the Filipino is now looking for more premium dining experiences, we are driven by our mission to consistently ‘wow’ them. This includes upgrading our look, launching innovative products, and emphasizing a high quality of service,” he said.

 Shakey’s opened in the Philippines in 1975 where it maintains market leadership in both the full service and pizza chain categories.

In the first nine months of 2017, Shakey’s grew its recurring income by 15 percent.

System wide sales rose by 15 percent, driven by same store sales growth of six percent and an expanding local store network.

Apart from the Philippines,  it also owns the perpetual rights to the Shakey’s brand for the Middle East, Asia (excluding Japan and Malaysia), China, Australia, and Oceania.
