PAL to take delivery of 2 new Boeing planes
MANILA, Philippines — Flag carrier Philippine Airlines (PAL) expects to take delivery of two Boeing 777-300 ER aircraft within the month.
In a statement yesterday, PAL said the two new aircraft from Boeing’s manufacturing plant in Seattle, Washington, would undergo a series of tests and inspections prior to delivery to the carrier.
“They are scheduled to arrive Manila on Dec. 16 and 19,” PAL said.
The two new aircraft are intended to be used for long-haul flights.
PAL also expects to accept two Airbus A350-900s within the first half of next year to allow it to expand its operations.
In particular, the new aircraft would enable PAL to add non-stop frequencies between Manila and the US West Coast and open a non-stop Manila – New York service.
At present, PAL’s Manila - New York service has a stopover in Vancouver in Canada.
Apart from taking delivery of new aircraft this month, PAL is set to begin offering non-stop flights to Toronto in Canada from Manila.
PAL will start flying non-stop thrice weekly to Toronto from Manila on Dec.16.
The non-stop service via the Boeing 777 would cut travel time from 16 hours to 14.4 hours.
Last Dec.2, PAL opened the thrice per week Cebu-Bangkok service.
PAL also started operating the non-stop thrice weekly service from Manila to Auckland in New Zealand last Dec.6.
