Maynilad bags top energy management award

The ASEAN Centre for Energy recognized Maynilad’s energy efficiency and conservation practices after it conferred an ASEAN Energy Award to its La Mesa Treatment Plant 2. MANILA, Philippines — West Zone concessionaire Maynilad Water Services Inc. bagged a global award for its energy efficiency and conservation from the ASEAN Centre for Energy, a regional organization that promotes sustainable energy use.

Maynilad’s La Mesa treatment plant 2 topped the ASEAN Best Practices Competition for Energy Management in Buildings and Industries for the Small and Medium Industry Category.

The plant is also International Organization for Standardization 50001-certified.

As a global benchmark for climate and clean energy action, ISO 50001 is based on the management system model of continual improvement also used for other well-known standards such as ISO 9001 or ISO 14001, which allows for easier integration of energy management into companies’ overall efforts to improve quality and environmental management.

Maynilad president and CEO Ramoncito Fernandez said the company’s efforts to enhance its energy efficiency enabled it to register reductions in greenhouse gas emissions and other related environmental impacts.

The company was also able to generate savings in its electricity consumption because of its energy-reduction program.

“Despite our continued service expansion, we have registered energy savings and reduced carbon emissions through better operational efficiencies. This recognition inspires us to keep improving our business processes,” Fernandez said.

Maynilad is the largest private water concessionaire in the country in terms of customer base. It serves the areas of Caloocan, Pasay, Parañaque, Las Piñas, Muntinlupa, Valenzuela, Navotas, Malabon, and certain portions of Manila, Quezon City, Makati and Cavite.

The company is is owned and managed by Maynilad Water Holdings Co. Inc., a joint venture between Metro Pacific Investments Corp., DMCI Holdings Inc. and Marubeni Corp.
