Dalmore collection fetches $1.3 M

MANILA, Philippines — The Dalmore Paterson collection has just been sold for $1.3 million .

Sources said the collection, valued at £987,500 or P66 million was sold to an unnamed young Chinese tourist in the UK just a few days ago.

The male Chinese tourist is an avid collector of prized Scotch whiskies.

The Dalmore Paterson collection, comprised of 12 individual bottles of rare whiskies from 1926 to 1990s, is considered to be the world’s most expensive set or collection of Scotch whisky.

It is also the first and only collection of its kind in the world.

Launched in 2013, the Paterson collection was crafted by Richard Paterson, the master distiller employed by Whyte & Mackay, the maker of Dalmore.

The 12 bottles of Scotch paid homage to the people who influenced the legendary blender, said Whyte & Mackay, which is owned by tycoon Andrew Tan.

“To share with them a whisky which defines my working career has been an extremely rewarding experience,” Paterson said.

In the Philippines, Dalmore’s flagship store is located at Uptown Parade in Uptown Bonifacio where the ‘most expensive collection of single malt whisky in the country can be found. The rare single cask 21-bottle set aged from 1964 to 1992 is valued at 18-million.

Whyte & Mackay is the fifth largest Scotch whisky manufacturer in the world, and in recent years widened its market penetration in Asia.

Aside from Dalmore, its other brands are Jura Single Malt Whisky, Mackinlay’s Shackleton Malt Whisky, Whyte & Mackay Scotch Whisky, Vladivar Vodka, among others.

Emperador brands are now available in 100 countries around the world.

Tan never imagined that he would have his own liquor company when he was a young man in the 70s.

In 1974, Andrew Tan’s father, a factory worker, opened a bottle of Fundador. It was his graduation and Tan could not believe it. Having a bottle of Fundador on the table was more than luxury for his family.

Later on, he promised himself he would have his own brandy company.

Tan is the ninth richest man in the Philippines with a net worth of $2.5 billion.
