PLDT extends LTE coverage to Sun users

Louella Desiderio - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — PLDT Inc. is making Long Term Evolution (LTE) and new data offers available for Sun subscribers across the country this month following the launch of the 4G service for the mobile brand in Metro Cebu.

In a statement, PLDT said Sun prepaid customers can now go to Sun Shops to upgrade their SIMs to LTE for free and retain their number.

Postpaid customers, meanwhile, may visit Sun Shops to get LTE SIMs starting next month.

“With LTE now available, our Sun customers can now enjoy a better mobile data experience, which they can use to watch videos, play games and download files on-the-go,” Mario Tamayo, PLDT and Smart senior vice president for network planning and engineering, said.

To take full advantage of the new LTE service, Sun customers are encouraged to avail of new LTE prepaid offers.

Through the Sun Big Time Data 70, customers can get 1 GB data, unlimited text to all networks and 30 minutes of calls to Sun for P70 valid for seven days.

“We encourage our Sun customers to upgrade their SIMs to LTE-ready SIMs for free in our Sun shops, as well as upgrade to LTE devices so they can fully tap the improved LTE network that we are putting in place,” Alex Caeg, head of consumer business for customer development, said.

Apart from the rollout of LTE service, PLDT’s network expansion effort also includes the integration of the Smart and Sun mobile networks, so the firm can install more new base stations for 2G, 3G and LTE technologies to better serve the subscribers of both brands.
