MPIC broadens toll e-payments
MANILA, Philippines - The tollway arm of Metro Pacific Investments Corp. (MPIC) is making available various electronic payment options for motorists traveling the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX), Manila-Cavite Toll Expressway (CAVITEX) and the Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX) as part of improving its service.
Speaking at the launch of the Digital Tollways Program which aims to raise awareness on electronic payment options available for motorists using MPIC’s tollways held yesterday, Metro Pacific Tollways Corp. (MPTC) president and chief executive officer Rodrigo Franco said enabling electronic payments would allow motorists to have a more convenient and hassle-free travel.
Motorists using the NLEX can now pay tollway fees using cash or other options such as the Easy Trip Radio Frequency Identification (RFID), beep cards, as well as MasterCard debit, prepaid and credit cards including the Smart MasterCard powered by PayMaya.
As for other tollways such as the CAVITEX and SCTEX, motorists can expect the acceptance of MasterCard payments within the year.
Motorists can also use their Visa contactless debit, prepaid, and credit cards soon at the NLEX, CAVITEX and SCTEX.
“Enabling electronic transactions in the tollways is a key contributor in growing electronic money usage as thousands of motorists use our expressways every day. With this initiative, we are offering Filipinos more options that can suit their lifestyle and personal preferences,” Franco said.
MPIC chairman Manuel V. Pangilinan said the move also supports the promotion of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) of electronic payments.
