Maynilad spends P291 M for pipe replacement

MANILA, Philippines - West Zone concessionaire Maynilad Water Services Inc. has allocated P291 million for its pipe replacement project to improve water quality and pressure in Quezon City.

The project will cover 36 kilometers in the northern part of Quezon CIty particularly in Fairview and Batasan Hills.

Upon completion  in September, the project will increase water pressure for more than 13,000 customers in the area from an average of seven pounds per square inch (psi) to 16 psi.

Replacing the pipelines will also allow Maynilad to recover some 70 million liters of water per day (MLD), which are lost due to leaks.

The volume can supply the daily requirement of approximately 120,000 households.

“There is a need to sustain investments in the rehabilitation of deteriorated pipelines in the west zone, as this will help to further enhance water supply reliability for our customers,” Maynilad president and CEO Ramoncito Fernandez said.

For 2017, the water company targets to replace 328 kilometers of old pipelines in Quezon City, Navotas, Valenzuela, Pasay, Parañaque, Muntinlupa, Las Piñas and Cavite.

Maynilad has allocated P2.7 billion for its non-revenue water program which includes pipe replacement projects.

This year, the company is spending P11.7 billion for its water and wastewater infrastructure projects to ensure sufficient water supply and pressure in the west zone as well as improvement works in its water treatment plants, and construction of pumping stations.

Bulk or about P8.3 billion of this year’s capital expenditures will go to water infrastructure projects.
