POC, NSAs aapela para matuloy ang hosting ng 2019 SEA Games

MANILA, Philippines - Hindi pa rin nawawalan ng pag-asa ang Philippine Olympic Committee (POC)  at ang mga National Sports Associations (NSAs) na matuloy ang 30th Southeast Asian Games dito sa Pilipinas sa 2019.

Sabi ni POC secretary-general Steve Hontiveros kahapon na magsasagawa sila ng General Assembly meeting bukas sa Wack Wack Golf and Country Club sa Mandaluyong City upang pag-usapan ang naturang ikaapat sanang hosting ng bansa ng beinnial Games para iapela nila kay Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte na ituloy ang commitment ng bansa.

“Meron pang chance. Basta may aprobal lang ni Presidente. Ang move ng POC  is to convene the Ge-neral Assembly and appeal to the President (Rodrigo Duterte). To show the image of the Philippines that there is no problem,” sabi ni Hontiveros.

Ayon pa kay Hontiveros, interesado ang Indonesia at Thailand para sa hosting ng 2019 edisyon na ibi-nigay sa Pilipinas noong 2015 matapos umayaw ang orihinal na host na Brunei Darussalam dahil sa importanteng bagay na kanilang pagtutuunan.

“They (Indonesia at Thailand) have a chance to bid now,” dagdag ni Hontiveros.

Ang posisyon ng Pilipinas sa hosting ng 2019 Sea Games ay pormal na isumite ng POC sa Southeast Asian Games Federation Council meeting ngayong Agosto 15 sa Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia at inaasahan ding magsasagawa agad ng panibagong bidding sa mga interesadong bansa na mag-host nito.

Sa pagkansela ng Pilipinas sa hosting ng 2019 Sea Games, maaaring hindi magkaroon ng turnover rites sa closing ceremonies sa unang pagkakataon ng beinnial games.

“Ang programa ng Malaysia sa closing ceremonies ng 29th Sea Games sa Agosto 30 ay tapos na. Naka-set na mga invitations. It could be the first time without a turnover sa closing ceremonies,” ayon kay Hontiveros.

Kung natatandaan, binawi ng Malacañang ang suporta sa nasabing 2019 Sea Games noong Biyenes dahil sa kasalukuyang sitwasyon ng Mindanao at ang problema ng terorismo dahil mas nais ng gobyerno ni Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte na pagtuunan na lang ang pagresolba sa problema ng Marawi City.

“However, due to the current situation in Min-danao and the problem of terrorism and atrocities, we regret to inform you that we will no longer pushed through with the hosting of the biennial event.  It has been resolved, that Government resources be focused in the rehabilitation and rebuilding of Mindanao especially Marawi,” sabi ni Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) chairman William ‘Butch’ Ramirez sa kanyang sulat kay POC president Jose Cojuangco noong Hulyo 21.

Nilinaw rin ni Ramirez na hindi sa kanya nagmula ang final desisyon kundi mula sa Malacañang matapos ang kanilang pagpupulong kasama si Sen. Juan Miguel Zubiri mahigit dalawang linggo na ang nakakaraan.

“This is the decision from the higher-ups after a thorough meeting with Sen. Zubiri two weeks ago. The final decision was just relayed to the POC through the PSC. It was just coursed through us,” ayon kay Ramirez.
