Landbank donates P700 K to Phl Eagle Foundation

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines -  As part of its commitment to take an active role in environmental preservation, Landbank recently donated P700,000 for the conservation and protection of the Philippine Eagle, channeled through the Philippine Eagle Foundation (PEF).

The bank’s donation will finance the improvement of captive breeding facilities which covers the purchase of a brand new cage, repair of breeding chamber, and construction of partition for existing duplex-type cage.

The partnership between the two institutions was formalized in a groundbreaking ceremony held last June 9 at the Philippine Eagle Center in Davao City led by PEF executive director Dennis Salvador and Landbank East Mindanao Branches Group head/first vice president Camilo Leyba.

According to PEF, Landbank is the sole institution dedicated to finance the “breeding” of the national eagle. The foundation sees the bank’s donation as a great assistance to the conduct of artificial insemination of the eagles in captive breeding.

The Philippine Eagle, with only 400 pairs remaining in the wild, is now considered as critically endangered due to illegal hunting and deforestation. The PEF aims to increase the count of these birds through a holistic approach of public education, research and captive breeding.
