AC Energy, FBDC ink power supply deal for BGC

Danessa Rivera - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines -  The developer of Bonifacio Global City (BGC) has signed a deal with Ayala-owned AC Energy Holdings Inc. for the provision of renewable power supply to its office and retail developments.

The agreement will power up eight of Fort Bonifacio Development Corp.’s buildings, including properties such as BGC Corporate Center, Bonifacio High Street, Central Square, Bonifacio Stopover, Park Triangle and Bonifacio Technology Center.

The electricity supply will include certified emission reductions (CER) certificates sourced from renewable energy plants to ensure electricity purchased by FBDC is carbon neutral.

“This partnership with AC Energy is part of our commitment to maintain a progressive yet environmentally sustainable community. This is just the first eight buildings. We intend to do the same for our future developments and hope to encourage other BGC locators to follow suit,” BGC’s head of commercial operations Manny Blas said.

FBDC, a company controlled by Ayala Land Inc. and Evergreen Holdings of Joselito Campos, has partnered with the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) to convert the former US military base into a world-class business and residential center in Taguig.

Earlier, AC Energy said it is entering the retail energy business initially targeting a 50-megawatt (MW) supply in the next three years in line with the full implementation of retail competition and open access (RCOA).

It acquired a retail license from the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) in 2016.

As of March 2017, AC Energy has reached 50 MW of switched and committed customers.

Under the RCOA regime, end-users that are part of the contestable market, or contestable customers, are given the choice to choose their supplier of electricity, aimed to foster competition in the generation and supply sector.
