BIR files 3rd tax case vs Mighty
MANILA, Philippines - The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) filed Friday its third tax evasion complaint against local cigarette manufacturer Mighty Corp. before the Department of Justice (DOJ) for the alleged use of fake tax stamps.
Mighty Corp., together with its president Edilberto Adan, executive vice president Oscar Barrientos, vice president for external affairs and assistant corporate secretary Alexander Wongchukin, and treasurer Ernesto Victa, were charged anew with a tax evasion case with liabilities amounting to P1.39 billion.
This is on top of the P9.56 billion and P26.93 billion tax evasion cases filed against the company earlier. In total, Mighty’s estimated tax liabilities have so far reached P37.88 billion.
The new complaint involves the fake cigarette tax stamps seized by the Customs Bureau and the BIR from Mighty’s Sunshine Corn Mill Warehouse located at Arradaza St., Barangay Lagao, Gen. Santos City on March 24.
A total of 9,496 master cases and 22 reams containing about 4.75 million packs of cigarettes were stored in the warehouse, according to BIR’s inventory.
