Bar results out today

Edu Punay - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines -  The Supreme Court (SC) is set to release today the results of last year’s Bar examinations.

The justices would approve the results of the licensure exams for lawyers in a special session.

“The Bar 2016 results will be deliberated upon May 3. Results will be released only after SC approves the chair’s recommendation,” the SC public information office announced.

A total of 6,831 law graduates took the grueling Bar exams in November last year at the University of Sto. Tomas, facilitated by the high court’s committee on the 2016 Bar exams chaired by Associate Justice Presbitero Velasco Jr.

Reports had it that more than 40 percent of the examinees are expected to pass the Bar, but SC spokesman Theodore Te denied it, saying only when the results are approved by the high court will the passing rate be determined.

In the 2015 Bar exams, a total of 1,731 passed, representing 26.21 percent of the total of 6,605 takers.

The Bar exams cover eight subjects – Political Law, Civil Law, Taxation, Labor Law, Criminal Law, Remedial Law, Mercantile Law and Legal and Judicial Ethics.

The exams were held for several years at the De La Salle University campus on Taft Ave., Manila but the SC decided to move it to the UST in 2011 after DLSU ended its contract due to several construction activities that year.

Additional security measures were put in place since the grenade explosion that marred the September 2010 Bar exams at DLSU in Manila.
