Painter beaten to death
MANILA, Philippines - A painter died after being beaten up by two men in Quezon City on Friday.
Ruel Balila, 38, was walking along a footbridge in Barangay Holy Spirit at around 4:30 a.m. together with his brother Angelo Cinco and a certain Don when two men approached them.
One of the assailants hit Balila’s brother with a hard object in the back of the head, prompting Cinco to leave the victim and their companion behind.
When Cinco returned after seeking help, he saw his brother bloodied and lifeless on the ground while their companion was nowhere to be found.
Responding barangay peacekeeping officers chased the two assailants, who ran to an alley near the footbridge.
Probers said Balila died from a contusion on the head after he was hit with a hard object. He also sustained abrasions on the leg.
Police launched a manhunt for the assailants while the motive behind the incident is still under investigation.
