Cop in attack on ex-lover’s husband surrenders
MANILA, Philippines - After evading arrest for several days, a policewoman tagged in the shooting of her former lover’s husband in Quezon City surrendered on Friday.
Police Officer 1 Wealyn Ojastro surrendered to Novaliches police Station 4 chief Superintendent April Mark Young at around 3:30 p.m.
Ojastro also surrendered her service firearm and is now under the custody of the station’s administrative holding section.
The officer, a beat patroller, reportedly shot Mark Kevin Tumbaga last Monday in Barangay Sauyo.
Reports said the victim’s wife Glaiza allegedly had an affair with Ojastro.
Quezon City police director Chief Superintendent Guillermo Lorenzo Eleazar earlier ordered a manhunt for Ojastro after she failed to report for duty following the shooting.
“It was fortunate that she surrendered and did not wait to be cornered and fight it out with arresting officers. We assure the public that such act does not speak of the whole organization,” Eleazar said in a statement.
Charges of frustrated murder and physical injury have been filed against Ojastro, who is also facing administrative charges.
