CH holds “Serbisyo Sugboanon”
CEBU, Philippines - The Cebu City government yesterday hosted a caravan of free services at the Plaza Sugbo as part of this year’s 80th Charter Day celebration.
Guided by the theme: "Tomorrow must be better than today," various departments of the city government held the “Serbisyo Sugboanon 2017.”
Mayor Tomas Osmeña encouraged the City Hall employees to do their best so tomorrow will be better.
“Most people have the perception that our task is to solve the problem. We do not solve problems. Many of these problems would never disappear,” Osmeña said.
The offices that rendered free services yesterday include the Department of Veterinary Medicine and Fisheries, Cebu City Transportation Office, Burial and Hospitalization Assistance, City Legal Office, City Treasurer’s Office, Cebu City Environment and Natural Resources Office, Cebu City Health Department and Cebu City Medical Center.
Cebuanos were treated to free medical and dental services. The people were also taught about management of garbage at home through the Takakura composting method.
Consolacion Paña, composting coordinator of CCENRO, said this kind of composting does not have foul smell. She said that most garbage in landfills is biodegradable which can be composted at home.
The City Agriculture Department also gave out herbal vegetable seedlings. Apple Tribunalo, officer-in-charge, said they have also assigned working committee to answer questions from the people on how to plant the seedlings.
The Department of Manpower Development and Placement also held a job fair. Mauricio Cabatino, training division head of DMDP, said their department also offered manicure, pedicure and flower arrangement services.
The Department of Engineering and Public Works and the Office of the Building Official joined forces to entertain the needs of the residents from the different barangays.
Rowena Salas, supervising administrative officer of DEPW, said they list down concerns so appropriate actions could be taken.
Josefa Ylana, officer-in-charge of both the Offices of the City Engineer and Building Official, said OBO also accepted electrical permit applications. —Vania Mae Lim (FREEMAN)
