UV Lancers set for HK tour
CEBU, Philippines - The University of the Visayas Green Lancers are set for a five-day tour in Hong Kong on February 15-19.
As promised by UV Basketball team manager Gerald Anthony ‘Samsam’ Gullas Jr., the Lancers’ trip to the former British colony is part of their incentives for winning the men’s basketball championship of the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (CESAFI) last season.
Under the tutelage of Gary Cortes, the Lancers dethroned the University of San Carlos (USC) Warriors to end their two-year title drought in the CESAFI cage wars.
A day after their arrival, UV Lancers assistant coach and chief scout Van Halen Parmis said they will be having a tour and autograph signing at one of the malls in the Tsim Sha Tsui district.
On the 17th and the succeeding day, Parmis said they will be playing tune-up games against selected teams based in HK.
The last time they won the CESAFI championship four years ago, the UV Lancers, then coached by Felix Belano Jr., represented the Philippines in basketball event of the 27th Summer Universiade in Kazan, Russia.—EBV (FREEMAN)
