No case filed yet over death of Korean tourist
Senior Superintendent Rommel Cabagnot, director of LCPO, said the Korean consul and the owner of the diving shop, who also happens to be a Korean national, were in the process of settling the issue.
He said the case is ready in their office, if one of them is willing to file the complaint.
The Korean couple Seong Soo Kim, 64, and Jam Sak Lim, 60, went parasailing around 10 a.m. last January 24 but the line connecting the chute to the speed boat snapped off reportedly due to strong winds.
Seong eventually died, while Jam survived.
According to Lapu-Lapu City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Officer Andy Berame, state weather bureau has issued a gale warning for that day, but the diving shop the couple went to did not follow orders that no parasailing should be done.
Berame had earlier said the city government will probe the matter to determine whether the diving shop and its service provider will be held liable for the incident.
The city might call for the closure of the business and cancellation of its business permits, said Berame.
Following the incident, Berame urged hotels and resorts as well as other diving shops that they should heed the gale warning and should not allow tourists to venture into the sea when the weather is not favorable.
The city government is only looking after the safety of its tourists, said Berame. (FREEMAN)
