LIVE: Senate probe into MMFF issues
MANILA, Philippines — The Senate Committee on Public Information and Mass Communication conducted a hearing into the issues surrounding the Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) on Tuesday morning.
Committee chair Sen. Grace Poe said the hearing was a discussion on the establishment of a film festival exclusively for independent films, following the resolution of Sen. Vicente “Tito” Sotto III.
Sotto questioned the MMFF selection committee’s picks for the festival last December, which were mostly independent films.
Among those invited in the hearing were Metro Manila Development Film Festival General Manager Thomas Orbos, Movie Workers Welfare Fund (Mowelfund) President Boots Anson-Roa, Movie Television Review and Classification Board chair Eugenio Villareal and Film Development Council of the Philippines chair Liza Diño. Also asked to attend were MMFF Selection Committee led by film critic Nicanor Tiongson, director Erik Matti and film producer Ronald Allan Monteverde.
