Louella Desiderio - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines – Flag carrier Philippine Airlines (PAL) has taken delivery of a brand new Airbus A321 to be used for its domestic and international flights.

In a statement, PAL said the aircraft has arrived in the country from the Airbus manufacturing plant in Toulouse in France.

The 199-seater A321 is configured to accommodate 12 on business class, 18 on premium economy and 169 on regular economy.

With the arrival of the new A321, PAL now has a total of 78 aircraft in its fleet.

PAL is scheduled to take delivery of three more A321s and two B777s before the end of the year.

Earlier this year, PAL also signed a purchase agreement with Airbus for six A350-900 aircraft to be used for long-haul routes.

PAL’s first A350 is scheduled for delivery in 2018.

The national carrier is acquiring new aircraft to support its plan to expand to more destinations.

It is also looking to improve services to passengers in line with the goal of achieving a five-star rating in five years.

The airline currently has a three-star ranking from Skytrax, an aviation consultancy based in the United Kingdom.

PAL operates flights to over 40 international destinations and 30 domestic points.
