Maynilad completes Cavite reservoir

MANILA, Philippines - West Zone concessionaire Maynilad Water Services Inc. has completed a P466-million reservoir in Cavite, as part of its water coverage expansion program in the south.

The Toclong Pumping Station and Reservoir in Kawit are expected to start operations by September and can store up to 35 million liters of water.

The newly-constructed pumps will increase water pressure for around 19,000 households in Cavite.

“Building new pumping stations and reservoirs will enable us to bring potable surface water to more areas in Cavite, where we hope to end communities’ reliance on groundwater supply,” Maynilad president and chief executive officer Ramoncito Fernandez said.

The reservoir will also enhance Maynilad’s water-holding capacity, allowing it to store water during non-peak hours and bring the stored water to customers during peak demand, especially to elevated areas.

“Maynilad currently has about 800,000 customers in Cavite, but there are still a lot of people in this area who are not yet connected to our network,” he added.

To date, Maynilad has 27 pumping stations and 26 reservoirs located in strategic locations throughout its West concession area.

The water company is spending around P1 billion this year for the construction, upgrade and rehabilitation of pumping stations and reservoirs.

Maynilad is investing P42 billion until 2018 to accelerate improvement and expansion of its water and wastewater services.

For 2016 alone, Maynilad is allocating P13.6 billion mainly for water and wastewater infrastructure projects that are targeted to create around 41,243 jobs.

Maynilad is the largest private water concessionaire in the Philippines in terms of customer base. It serves the areas of Caloocan, Pasay, Parañaque, Las Piñas, Muntinlupa, Valenzuela, Navotas, Malabon, and certain portions of Manila, Quezon City, Makati and Cavite.
