Concepcion unit eyes venture into security systems

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines – Concepcion Building and Industrial Solutions (BIS), the commercial arm of the Concepcion family’s publicly-listed holding firm, is looking to venture into security systems to complete its building solutions portfolio for developers.

In a press briefing yesterday, Concepcion BIS group director Rajan Komarasu said the company is currently working at further diversifying its offering as it expects growth in the local construction industry to continue in the coming years.

Komarasu said providing security system solutions such as surveillance cameras and access controls are among the areas seen as growth opportunities for the company.

“The construction industry is booming in the Philippines so in any building you go, you will find that the major segments of any building will be air conditioning, elevators and escalators, lighting and security systems. At this point in time, we are in two major segments (air-conditioning and elevators and escalators) already but our vision for BIS in the next five years is to get into these other businesses as well,” Komarasu said.

Komarasu said its entry into security system solutions would be done either through partnerships or a direct presence.

“Developers want everything, and what you find now is they are talking to separate suppliers, one supplying air-conditioning, one supplying elevators, and one supplying lighting. So it makes sense for them to work with one partner or one group that offers all these solutions so basically they have one point of contract. The vision of this group is to become one day a leader in providing building solutions,” he said.

Concepcion BIS posted P2.7 billion in revenues last year, 33 percent more compared to the previous year, on strong demand from high-rise residential condominiums and commercial buildings.

The company said among its biggest projects last year was supplying air-conditioning units for a major casino development and collaborating with major developers on different projects ranging from residential buildings, malls and industrial facilities.

Komarasu said a sizeable number of construction activities in the country would go on for the next three to five years, which is expected to position the company for continued growth as well.

“We will continue to do our part and support the air-conditioning and vertical transportation needs of the rising Philippines in the many years to come,” he said.
