DMCI Power deploys gensets to Palawan, Masbate
MANILA, Philippines - Off-grid supplier DMCI Power Corp. (DPC) is deploying several generators with a total capacity of 10 megawatts (MW) in Masbate and Palawan to ensure reliable power supply during the May 9 polls.
DPC said in a statement it will deploy five units of one-MW generating sets to Irawan, Palawan and seven gensets totaling five MW to Masbate.
Palawan Electric Cooperative (Paleco) and Masbate Electric Cooperative (Maselco) sought help from DPC to augment the generating capacity in the missionary areas.
“Adequate and uninterrupted power supply is critical to the conduct of orderly and credible elections. We are committed to doing our part in ensuring the success of the electoral process,” DPC president Nestor Dadivas said.
Government data showed Palawan and Masbate have around one million registered voters.
Recently, DPC was also tapped to supply power to the municipalities of Brooke’s Point, Bataraza and Española in Palawan for six weeks, after the National Power Corp. (Napocor) scheduled preventive maintenance work on its 69-kilovot (kV) southern transmission line.
To avert power outage in the three towns during the maintenance process, DPC operated eight gensets with around five MW dependable capacity 24/7 on island-mode.
DPC operates diesel and bunker power plants in Masbate, Palawan, Oriental Mindoro and Sultan Kudarat.
It is on the lookout for more opportunities to grow its business such as through the bidding of Napocor’s-Small Power Utilities Group contracts and Power Sector Asset and Liabilities Management Corp.’s privatization of power generation assets.
The company is also venturing into renewable energy through several run-of-river hydroelectric power plants in Cagayan de Oro and Sultan Kudarat, with a total 100 MW capacity.
