Cebu Pacific leads cargo volume in Q1

MANILA, Philippines - Budget carrier Cebu Air Inc. (Cebu Pacific) accounted for the bulk of domestic cargo in the first three months of the year, according to the Civil Aeronautics Board (CAB).

Data from the CAB showed the budget airline carried 25.86 million kilograms (kg) of cargo or 44 percent of the total volume in the first quarter this year.

Total domestic cargo reached 58.91 million kg in the first three months of the year.

The flag carrier’s low cost airline unit PAL Express, got the second spot as it accounted for 16.85 million kg.

Philippine Airlines placed third with 8.03 million kg of cargo transported for the three-month period.

Ranking fourth is Tiger Airways, which transported 4.68 million kg of cargo, followed by Air Asia Zest with 2.96 million kg.

Other airlines which carried domestic cargo for the first quarter were Air Asia with 421,997 kg, Island Transvoyager  with 102,618 kg and Magnum Air with 14,964 kg.

In 2014, the volume of cargo transported within the country reached 250.68 million kg, up 11 percent from the 226.89 million kg.

Data from CAB showed Cebu Pacific also got the biggest share of domestic air passenger traffic in the first quarter as it flew 51 percent or 2.66 million of the total 5.23 million passengers.
