Globe, HOOQ to provide legal, affordable video-on-demand service to Pinoys

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines – Globe Telecom announced Thursday its partnership with Asia’s video-on-demand service provider HOOQ, which will enable Filipinos to watch over 10,000 international and local movies and TV series online and offline.

“We saw that Filipinos love stories being told by others, whether local or from overseas,” HOOQ founding chief executive officer and former Globe chief operating officer Peter Bithos said.

“However, a few billion people have no quality way of seeing the best stories from Hollywood or their local market. HOOQ will change that. HOOQ will change the way people in emerging markets consume and enjoy entertainment.”

The newly established company makes video streaming and downloads legal and affordable in any device, including computers, smartphones and tablets.

Globe president and CEO Ernest Cu said that the LTE networks they have deployed across the country, together with their current partnerships with Spotify, Viber, NBA, Google and Facebook, made the partnership with HOOQ possible.

HOOQ is a start-up joint venture with Singtel, Sony Pictures Television and Warner Brothers Entertainment.

It has also partnered with ABS-CBN, GMA, Viva Communications and Regal Entertainment to make local films and TV series available along with Hollywood and Bollywood movies and TV content.

HOOQ is the first video-on-demand service in Asia. It will be available to customers soon on a plan-based service at only P199 per month.
