Island resort Boracay receives 1 M tourists by August

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines (Xinhua) - The Boracay island has received one million tourists by the end of August this year, local authorities said today.

Some 26,000 South Korean tourists visited Boracay island in August alone, topping the foreign tourist arrivals as usual. The number of Chinese visitors come in the second place.

August has seen a slightly decreased number of tourists because of the changing weather conditions, said the Department of Tourism.

The island is targeting 1.5 million tourists for 2014.

September is considered the start of a "super peak" months for Boracay.
