MANILA, Philippines – At least 1,000 housing units will be built early this year for the victims of typhoon Sendong in Mindanao, according to a Church official.
Fr. Edu Gariguez, executive secretary of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines-National Action for Social Justice, Action, and Peace, said the project will begin this month in the cities of Cagayan de Oro, Iligan and Dumaguete.
"Yung mga bahay na nasira na hindi naman talaga risky yung location, dun mismo sa site, wala kaming relocation site sa Dumaguete at Iligan, on site yung transitional housing," Gariguez said.
For his part, Caritas Manila Executive Director Fr. Anton Pascual said they mustered a total of P4 million in cash donations for the victims.
"Tayo ay natutuwa at nagpapasalamat sa kagandahang loob ng ating mga kababayan, umabot na tayo ng P4 million sa cash donation at nakalikom na tayo ng dalawang container van na mga donations in kind," Pascual said.
