MANILA, Philippines - A manhunt is on for an inmate who escaped from the Davao City Jail in Barangay Ma-a on November 1.
Jail Senior Inspector Roberto Gotico, chief of the Community Relations Service (CRS) of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) here, identified the detainee as Ferdinand Flores, alias Nanding, 34, a resident of Barangay Buhisan in Tibungco District and Barangay New San Isidro in Buhangin District, all in Davao City.
Gotico said operatives from the Regional Special Tactics and Response (STAR) Team and Davao City Jail's Recovery and Alert Teams (DCJRAT) were already deployed for the manhunt operation.
He said BJMP Davao has also reported the incident and provided pictures to the city's security forces to assist in the arrest of Nanding, who is charged with the violation of Republic Act (RA) 9165, otherwise known as an Act Instituting the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs of 2002.
Nanding escaped around 3 p.m. on Nov. 1 while under the custody of Jail Officer 1 Christopher Fernando, who has been temporarily relieved from his post.
Jail Chief Superintendent Norvel Mingoa, BJMP regional director, immediately ordered a "no visitation" policy at the Davao City Jail while investigation is ongoing.
"The incident is currently being investigated to establish concrete details on how Nanding escaped from his detention cell," Gotico said. - PNA
