SANTIAGO (Xinhua) -- Five people were killed and at least 73 others were injured in a multi-vehicle pile-up in Chile on Wednesday, said the police.
Among the dead was a 10-year-old child and the injured were taken to hospital.
The accident occurred at 7:10 a.m. local time (1110 GMT) on a highway that links Santiago with the central region of Valpariso. It involved 17 cars, 23 trucks and 11 buses, said the police.
The cause of the accident was under investigation. But the most probable reason was poor visibility due to smog from burning pasture, according to authorities.
