MOSCOW (Xinhua) -- Moscow is concerned over the humanitarian situation in Libya and urges all relevant parties to adhere to the UN resolutions that were aimed at protecting civilians, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a Monday statement.
"We think that all sides involved in the Libyan crisis must strictly observe international humanitarian norms, respect human rights and adhere to UN Security Council resolutions that were aimed at protecting civilian population," the statement said.
The statement noted civilian casualties are mounting in Libya, civil infrastructures are being damaged, and the number of refugees is growing.
"We are convinced that further worsening of the humanitarian situation in Libya would blight the political settlement," the statement added.
Moscow hopes relevant UN agencies, including the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), could continue to closely monitor the humanitarian situation in Libya, the statement added.
