Police rescue 2 Indian nationals, kill 5 kidnappers

MANILA, Philippines (Xinhua) - Two Indian nationals and a Filipino were rescued early today while their five kidnappers were killed in a shootout with law enforcers in a province south of Manila, police said.

Police identified the hostages as Pavitter Singh and Balvir Singh, both Indian nationals, and Luciano Clemen, a Filipino, who were seized by the kidnappers in Marilao town, Bulacan province on Thursday.

In a rescue operation at around 2:50 a.m. on Saturday in Santiago village, General Trias, Cavite province, the five suspects fought back and led to the killing of two of them, while the remaining three managed to escape using a red car without plate number, police said.

However, pursuing authorities caught them up at a checkpoint along Daang Hari Road in Imus town, police said, adding that a shootout occurred, resulting to the death of the three suspects.

Authorities recovered various firearms from the kidnappers.
