Air Force captain's wife cries discrimination on COC filing

MANILA, Philippines - The wife of an Air Force captain who has been facing court martial charges is now crying discrimination against the authorities for not allowing her husband to personally file his certificate of candidacy before the local Commission on Elections in Agusan del Norte.

Crisanta Pogoy, wife of Capt. Joenel Pogoy, said the Philippine Air Force leadership has advised them to send a representative to the poll body to file the COC instead.

"Ang sabi ni Lt.Col. [Gerry] Zamudio yung spokesperson ng Air Force na magpadala na lang kami ng representative, lawyer yata yun, para siya na ang magfile ng COC," she told philstar.com in a phone interview.

Like jailed Brig. Gen. Danilo Lim and other Magdalo soldiers who have been accused of rebellion but were allowed to personally file their respective COCs before the Comelec, she said her husband is only facing violation of Articles of War 96 and 97 or Conduct Unbecoming of an Officer and a Gentleman and Conduct Prejudicial to Good Order and Military Discipline.

In 2008, Pogoy posted a video blog on anti-corruption and called for the ouster of President Arroyo on the popular video-sharing site YouTube.

"Bakit ganun? Dahil kasi mga Magdalo sila? Baka naman natatakot ang Air Force dun sa mga isinawalat ng asawa ko tungkol sa mga katiwalian sa Air Force," she said.

In his video blog, Pogoy, now detained in the PAF Custodial Center in Villamor Airbase, blames "maintenance malpractice of aircraft and corrupt generals" in the PAF.

"Binebenta ang gasolina kaysa ikarga sa tangke ng eroplano," he said.

Pogoy has expressed his intention to run in one of the congressional districts of Agusan del Norte in the 2010 national elections.

The filing of the COCs started last Nov. 20 and will end on the midnight of Dec. 1.
