Power tower blasts cause blackout in Southern Philippines

MANILA (Xinhua) -- Three improvised bombs blew down a power tower in southern Philippines this morning, causing blackout to parts of the insurgency-infested Mindanao region.

According to an online news, the entire Zamboanga Peninsula and the province of Misamis Occidental experienced the lack of power after the explosion in Kauwagan town, Lanao del Norte at 2:30 a.m. local time.

The report said the fourth bomb, fashioned from an 81 mm shell, was later detonated by an explosive ordnance disposal team.

Muslim militants of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front rebels were suspected to have carried out the attack.
