MANILA, Philippines (Xinhua) - A two-year old American boy who was kidnapped in Pampanga was rescued by police today.
Philippine National Police chief Nicanor Bartolome said the toddler, son of American citizen Jayvee Woo, was rescued unharmed from his kidnappers near a church in Dau, Mabalacat town.
Bartolome said the boy was seized at gunpoint by masked suspects from his residence in San Fernando city in Pampanga on Wednesday.
He said the kidnappers contacted Woo and initially demanded a ransom of P50 million ($1.18 million) for the release of his son.
"After a series of negotiations with the family, the kidnappers accepted a counter-offer of P250,000 ($5,907) with instructions to deliver the ransom in Dau," said Bartolome.
Operatives from the Anti-Kidnapping Group arrested the suspect Michael Roque after receiving the ransom and handing over the boy to his father.
Another suspect, Rogelio Ramos, was arrested by police during a follow-up operation.
