MANILA, Philippines -- The De La Salle Green Archers remained undefeated while dealing the University of the East Red Warriors their second straight loss, 67-59, in the 75th season of the UAAP men’s basketball tournament at the Smart Araneta Coliseum today.
The Green Archers stringed together a 10-0 run at the midway point of the payoff period as they turned a slim 51-50 lead to an 11-point lead and never looked back.
" We're very happy with our record but it's still a long way to go, it's still early in the season. We're still looking for the right combinations and slowly finding out what's working for us" said La Salle coach Gee Abanilla.
Prized recruit Jeron Teng led La Salle with 16 points while veterans Jovet Mendoza and LA Revilla added 11 points each for the Taft-based Archers who are off to a good start under Abanilla.
"I'm still not that satisfied with my performance because I know I can do better especially at the start of the game because I started slow again," said Teng, who duplicated his older brother Jeric's output in UST's 71-70 win against defending champion Ateneo earlier.
Roi Sumang paced the Red Warriors with a game-high 20 points while Adrian Santos chipped in 14 points of his own for the Warriors, who absorbed a 35-point beating at the hands of the NU Bulldogs in the season opener.
La Salle grabbed the solo lead with a 2-0 card while UE languished at the bottom with a 0-2 record .
