Erap turns over 50 e-trikes in Binondo
MANILA, Philippines - Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada turned over yesterday 50 e-trikes to the first batch of driver-beneficiaries in Binondo.
Estrada said the program would help uplift the lives of tricycle drivers.
He said the cost of charging the e-trikes’ batteries would be subsidized by the local government.
“To own the e-trikes, the beneficiaries will pay the city government P250 daily for four years at zero interest,” Estrada said.
The e-trikes will replace all gasoline-run tricycles in Manila.
The city government acquired 280 units of e-trike at P400,000 each.
The Japanese-manufactured tricycles run on gel-type batteries that can be fully charged from four to five hours.
