MANILA, Philippines — The Senate majority agreed on Monday with the move of champion boxer Sen. Manny Pacquiao to declare the position of Sen. Franklin Drilon, who was Senate president pro-tempore, vacant.

Sen. Ralph Recto, who was minority leader, was sworn in to replace Drilon.

Sens. Francis Pangilinan and Benigno Aquino IV of the Liberal Party and their ally, Sen. Risa Hontiveros, were also ousted from committees they held as part of the Upper House's majority. They joined Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV, a staunch critic of President Rodrigo Duterte, to form a larger Senate minority.
