A Visit to Sirao Garden

PEOPLE PLACES - Flor Ynclino - The Freeman

Little did we know that before reaching Barangay Guba, there's a place named Sirao. So one day, Elena Sy Chua, a flight stewardess in an international airline invited our group (Nelia Neri, Cookie Newman, and myself) through Chinggay Utzurrum to visit the now-famous Sirao Garden or Little Amsterdam, which is just an hour's drive from the city plains.

Arriving at the site with 34 degrees Fahrenheit, we immediately settled at the beautiful Gazebo built in the midst of the fantastic blooming flowers. We were all excitedly awed to see the Celosias in full bloom in varied colors. Aside from the Celosias, also in bloom were the Sunflowers in yellow and white (we were reminded for the acres of Sunflowers we saw when we visited Cordoba in Spain years ago). Aside from the Celosias and Sunflowers, there were some 20 varieties of flowers; some Elena had picked in her travels to Amsterdam, Canada, and Monaco.

The more than 8000-square-meter property owned by couple Alfred and Elena Chua is not only planted with flowers but now organic vegetables are all around the property.

We are inviting one and all, if you have time to drive to Sirao, drop by the Sirao Garden or Little Amsterdam and you will surely have a marvelous experience feasting your eyes on the various flowers so beautiful beyond imagination.
