Honest city hall worker honored
BACOLOD CITY, Philippines – A casual employee of the Bacolod City government received cash and commendation on Tuesday for returning a bag left by an Omani at the city government center.
Raffy Cordero, who is assigned at the city disaster risk reduction and management office, found Thani Dhahi Mubarak Al-Alawi’s bag, which contains a mobile phone, a tablet, a wallet, medicine and other personal items.
Al-Alawi said the medicine, which he bought in India for $1,600, are his maintenance drugs after he underwent liver transplant.
He gave P2,000 and $100 to Cordero while Bacolod City Mayor Evelio Leonardia gave P10,000 in cash.
“The cash reward is not important, it is more the essence of recognizing Cordero’s good deed.” Leonardia said.
