CIDG nabs 2 alleged illegal recruiters

Emmanuel Tupas - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines -  Two alleged illegal recruiters were arrested by operatives of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) in Malate, Manila on Thursday.

Julieta Lipit, 52, and her secretary, Shiela Marie Amil, 47, were apprehended in an entrapment operation at Le Mirage Condominium along Mabini street.

The CIDG said they conducted the operation based on the complaint of several victims who were enticed by the suspects in applying for non-existent jobs in New Zealand.

Police said the victims paid P40,000 each for their supposed placement fees, medical examination and training.

When the job applicants checked with the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration, they discovered that Lipit is not a licensed recruiter.

Police have yet to determine the exact number of people victimized by Lipit.

Lipit and Amil are being held at the CIDG detention cell on estafa charges.
