QCPD motorcycle unit head sacked for extortion

Emmanuel Tupas - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines -  The head of the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) motorcycle unit and two others were relieved from their post yesterday for alleged extortion.

QCPD director Chief Superintendent Guillermo Eleazar  sacked Senior Police Officer 4 Rodentor Fajardo for command responsibility.

Two members of the motorcycle unit, SPO2 Raul Nadera and PO3 Anthony Tecson, were also relieved.

Eleazar recommended the transfer of the three officers to the National Capital Region Police Office Regional Police Holding and Administrative Office Unit at Camp Bagong Diwa in Taguig.

The sacked police officers are under the QCPD traffic division, Eleazar said.

Nadera and Tecson were apprehended by operatives of the Counter-Intelligence Task Force (CITF) in an entrapment operation on Tuesday for allegedly extorting money from truck drivers in Barangay Payatas.

They underwent inquest proceedings before the Quezon City prosecutor’s office yesterday for robbery and extortion under Republic Act 3019, the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act.

The nine members of the city hall’s anti-smoke belching unit (ASBU) who were held by police for questioning had been released.

They are being investigated by the city government for possible involvement in extortion activities.

CITF chief Senior Superintendent Jose Chiquito Malayo said they conducted the operation after receiving complaints that Nadera and Tecson were allegedly in cahoots with members of the ASBU.

Malayo said the policemen allegedly demanded P500 to P1,500 from truck drivers for supposed random smoke inspection.
