Alabang cruises to WGAP Circuit romp

SAKSAK SINAGOL - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Alabang slowed down with a one third place effort but still clinched the overall crown while host Forest Hills rallied to snare runner-up honors in the 2016 WGAP Circuit at the Forest Hills Golf and Country Club in Antipolo recently.

The Alabang ladies, who dominated half of the eight-leg circuit organized and conducted by the Women’s Golf Association of the Philippines, came in third in Class C, but the lone point was enough to net the Muntinlupa-based squad the overall championship with 27 points.

Alabang scored five points in the opening leg at Eagle Ridge, dominated at home in the second stage with seven points, collected five points again in Tagaytay and came away with four points in the penultimate leg in Canlubang to all but wrap up the championship heading to the final leg at Forest Hills.

The hosts  posted the most number of points won in a leg with eight as they ruled Classes B and C and placed second in Class A to assemble 23 points and nip Camp Aguinaldo in the tiebreak for second overall.

Aguinaldo placed second in Class B to likewise end up with 23 points but had to settle for third overall while Tagaytay wound up third in Class C for fourth overall with 21 points.

Villamor failed to land a podium finish at Forest Hills but still finished fifth overall with 19 points to nail the last berth in the WGAP Cup, which gathers the top five teams after the regular WGAP Circuit sponsored by Champion Infinity and Metro Pacific.

Forest Hills is the WGAP Cup defending champion.

Sta. Elena placed third in Class A but missed the WGAP Cup cast with 12 overall points while Canlubang topped Class A but could only churn out a 10-point overall output followed by Eagle Ridge, Wack Wack and Orchard with three points apiece.

Flordeliza Silao shot 40 Stableford points, Yuka Saso added 38 points and Ikuko Kito and Recy Barrientos each shot 34 points for Canlubang’s winning 146 in Class A.
