Spalding camps up in MM, provinces

MANILA, Philippines - The basketball camps that former PBA 7-time Best Import Bobby Parks and former PBA manager and PBL commissioner Charlie Favis started is once again opening its doors to kids aspiring to make it to basketball stardom, via its basketball camps and clinics, in several venues in Metro Manila and nearby provinces.

First in the lineup of venues is Dominican School Manila, which had its first session Friday, from 8-10 a.m., with over a hundred kids registered.

Tomorrow, Spalding Camps will open at Assumption Antipolo,  1-3 p.m. On  April 8 and 10, the basketball training goes to Sta. Lucia East Grand Mall for four camps in one venue.

Following the camps at Sta.Lucia, will be clinics at Divine Light Academy in Las Piñas, Aquinas School in San Juan, Ynares Sports Arena-Gatorade Hoops Center for kids in Mandaluyong-Pasig areas, St. Vincent’s Seminary in Quezon City, Marikina Sports Center in Marikina City (scheduled May 4), Lotus Mall Gym in Imus City, Portal Mall Basketball courts in GMA Cavite, Center for Children’s Well Being in Caloocan, Cainta Greenland Ph. 4. Other venues will be announced towards the end of April.

For a minimum amount, the kids are treated to eight days-eight sessions of intense basketball training under several experienced trainers and coaches from the professional and university leagues. They will receive free Spalding basketballs, Spalding reversible jerseys, Spalding sports bags and Spalding towels.

The camps have produced collegiate and university stars. They are also sources of talents for schools come to the camps  to scout and recruit players for  their varsity teams. Four players were recruited last year from the Spalding camps.
